About Buffalo

Buffalo is a city on the shores of Lake Erie in upstate New York, bordered on the north by Tonawanda, on the west by Cheektowaga and on the south by Lackawanna. It's fine neoclassical, beaux arts and art deco architecture speaks to its history as an industrial capital in the early 20th century. Its landmarks include the 398-ft art deco City Hall, the Frank Lloyd Wright–designed Darwin D. Martin House and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, a Greek Revival museum with works by Picasso and Warhol. Delaware Park was designed by the creator of New York City’s Central Park. Other public green spaces include the Victorian-era cemetery Forest Lawn and the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, featuring a domed Victorian-style greenhouse. Notable local comfort foods are the namesake Buffalo chicken wings invented here and the "beef on weck" roast beef sandwich. The city also has a passionate sports culture focused on the Buffalo Bills (pro football) and Sabres (pro hockey).
